Taking cues from Mediterranean seaside architecture, the walls of Grey Salt are finished with textured white plaster, creating a sense of tranquility. A wooden boardwalk welcomes patrons to the round zinc bar, evoking the feeling of walking along the beach. The main dining room features a sand-colored concrete floor flanked by travertine terraces, further enhancing the coastal ambiance.
The extensive banquettes in Grey Salt are upholstered in a lush blue fabric, reminiscent of the sea. The furniture and ceilings are made from white painted and weathered woods, adding a handmade tactility to the space. These design elements come together to create a unique and inviting atmosphere.
Located within a hotel and casino, Grey Salt serves as a calming oasis in contrast to the high energy of the gaming floor. The design prioritizes a bright and airy atmosphere, achieved through the use of warm natural materials. The restrained palette and the incorporation of elements inspired by the Mediterranean coastline contribute to the restaurant's unique character.
The design of Grey Salt was realized through an interior gut renovation of an existing cafe. The project spans 8890 square feet (826 square meters) and was completed between October 2014 and October 2015. The selection of natural materials, which will patina over time, and the use of handcrafted assemblies reflect the designer's intention to create a space that evokes thoughts of the hands that made them.
In recognition of its outstanding design, Grey Salt was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2016. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
Grey Salt's interior design, inspired by Mediterranean seaside architecture, offers a unique and inviting dining experience. With its calming atmosphere, warm natural materials, and restrained palette, the restaurant provides a tranquil escape within a bustling casino and hotel environment.
